HIGH GEAR

CHANCES

Ozzie of the W. Ninth Street Club Baths practices his gonging technique for The Gong Show at Baskerville's Music and Company.

Well, maybe it's not all at the tubs (or baths), but new things are being added. In Club Columbus, they've added eight more rooms and a new carpeted "john" complete with chandelier.

Up in Cleveland at the 32nd Street Club baths they've added Northern Ohio's first "Treasure Chest" for those interested in toys and leather goods. Both Club Baths celebrated with parties on August 8.

The Depo Baths in Cleveland will be celebrating their newest addition, an enclosed patio for relaxing and nude sunbathing, with a beer blast party on Tuesday, August 17. Music and sound system will be provided by Eric Bároush.

The fete from 7 to midnight includes free admission, food, beer and dancing under the stars to disco music provided by Eric Baroush (of the Shaker Club).

Since this is a get-acquainted party, street clothes are welcome.

Meanwhile, at Club Toledo, they are holding a week-long party celebrating their 10th anniversary. Check their ad in this month's High Gear for details.

INTO THE FUTURE

The next four weeks offer a variety of entertainments for gay Ohio. They range from parties to plays, game shows to true talent shows, baseball games to rap groups. It's impossible to list them all here, so be sure to read all the ads and the High Gear calendar. Don't be sorry that you missed it because you didn't know about it.

Although Gypsy's noontime lunch hour has been discontinued, right after Labor Day he will open earlier at 5 p.m. for dinner and cocktails with rich homemade soup and homemade rolls. Meanwhile Gypsy says it is still "the place to get your goodies" and wine for that impromptu party until 1 a.m.

After 2 a.m., continued Gypsy, you can get breakfast anywhere, but try the specials. "The specials are a better buy than

the breakfast." (If you still haven't had enough of Gypsy's wisdom, ask him about his drink prices.) ...

The stroke of midnight and the start of July 24 was the signal for a celebration at Ann's Bar in Warren. It was a surprise birthday party for Ann, the

Iner. After being called from the kitchen, Ann was greeted with a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday" and presented with three birthday cakes donated by Walt, the owner of the Alpine Cafe across the street. The tears in her eyes didn't inhibit Ann's aim as she blew out the candles on each cake with one blow! It was a very happy birthday, and we wish Ann many more....

There was another surprise party on August 1 in Canton. This one was for 300-04 Club owner Larry Loveless. Larry says it was his first birthday party and quite a surprise....

August might ordinarily be considered the summer doldrums, but this year it's different! Check this month's ads and High Gear calendar to see the wide variety of entertainments being offered to Ohio gays. Give them your support and, of course, tell them you saw it in High Gear....

ADONIS REMODELS

CLEVELAND The Adonis Theatre on W. Ninth St., Cleveland's only gay male movie house, has made several ad-ditions recently. In the actual theater air conditioning has been installed. The hallway has been painted, equipped with FM speakers and carpeting has been laid. In the entry way a community bulletin board has been provided.

In the near future the Adonis will be opening a snack bar on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. until closign at 4 a.m.

According to the manager, who has done most of the work himself, he is trying to brighten the place up. Presently he is checking into additional sources of films.

For more information about the offerings and the specific features, call the theater during show hours.

DINING ROOM CLOSED

SANDUSKY The Dining Room, Sandusky's first openly gay bar, is closed already. According to the manager, Toni Collins, while the owner expressed positive support for gay clientele, he later "turned on us." Ms. Collins is currently suing the owner for "moneys owed and personal property". The court date is set for August 19.

Although she is disappointed about having to close the bar, Ms. Collins is getting closer, she says, to the final stages of opening a new bar for Sandusky's gay community.
